THE IMPORTANCE OF TEACHING LITERATURE TO STUDENTS

Literature is motivating

The literature stimulates and develops the imagination and creativity of students, and so enables the interaction of them in the classroom. Also, if the literary texts are well chosen, can awaken in students' motivation to read and even improve their skills in reading comprehension.

"Reading sharpens critical thinking, strengthens the autonomy of judgment, aesthetic feeling educates, nurtures the imagination, broadens the imagination, speaks to the emotions, the feeling grows, discovers self broader interests and contributes to promoting a strong moral and civic consciousness open to the ideals of human understanding and social and international solidarity, being essential to the intellectual formation of the person. "(Nobile, 1992:20).

The previous paragraph that encloses the literature should be a motivation for our students and not torture. This means that literature should be a way of expressing able to open a range of experiences for our students who read and that's what we as educators must cultivate in them, to learn from other cultures.
